All great things must come to an end, and that's what happened to Masco's season on Tuesday, losing their first tournament game by a score of 3-2. Senior Tom Brazil scored fast, off of assists from senior Andy Roach and junior Ryan Dooley. But then Lynnfield came storming back, taking the lead 3-1 into the third period. Brazil made a beautiful pass to Dooley, who tipped it in to bring the game within one with three minutes to go. Masco fought for that tying goal, but fate was not on their side. Senior captain Keaton Cashin, who played an outstanding game, made an almost heroic end-to-end rush, that finished with a shot that sailed just wide. Senior Warren Mccarthy played a solid game against some great opportunities by Lynnfield, and kept the Chieftains in the game. However, these efforts were not enough as the season came to an end at the end of the game. While the season ended on a sour note, the Chieftains had a great season this year, earning their title as Co-CAL champs. Congratulations to all the players and coaches, for a great season. Also, congratulations to all of the Seniors, on great careers with Masco hockey, and god luck with facing whatever may lay ahead.

There are a few games every year when everything clicks for a team. One of them came today for Masco, who defeated Amesbury 9-0 in a game that involved great offense and great defense. The rivalry between North Andover and Masco has been growing over the last few years. Both teams have been very well-matched, as they were Wednesday night at Merrimack College, where the teams tied 1-1. Senior Tom Brazil got the scoring started for Masco early, off of a nice off angle shot that was set up by fellow senior Andy Roach. With that goal the Chieftains went into the locker room ahead 1-0. However, when the second period began, North Andover fought back, tying the game at one. From there on the game was back and forth, with chance after chance for both teams. Senior goalie Warren Mccarthy came up big for the Chieftains, making plenty two breakaway saves in the third period, including one against high scoring North Andover senior Ryan Sifferlen. The Chieftains will take this tie, and move on in the season with a game against Amesbury on Saturday.

1/13/09

Wilmington was the JV boys' toughest team to play earlier in the season, and the only thing that has changed is the outcome. The baby Chieftains lost a game for the first time this year against Wilmington, 4-1. The team lost the first periods, but then fought back in the third period. Freshman Vincent Zingarelli scored the lone goal for Masco with an assist from junior Jake Dahlgren. Masco got plenty of shots, but ran into a hot Wilmington goalie. The boys will look to put this behind them and face Marblehead on Saturday, to start a new winning streak.

1/12/09

Tewksbury has proven to Masco that it is a tough opponent to beat. After knocking Masco out of the playoffs last year, they returned with the same intensity, defeating Masco 6-2. Casey Tudor played solid in net, but wasn't able to weather each storm that the fast paced offense of Tewksbury brought. Seniors Andy Roach and Anthony DiBendetto scored goals for Masco. Senior Tom Brazil posted two assists, along with another from each Senior Stefan Surette and Roach. Masco needs to recover quickly, and get ready for a tough rivalry game against North Andover at hostile Merrimack College on Wednesday.

1/10/09

The varsity chieftains tied with a tough Lynnfield squad 2-2 on Saturday. This was a defensive battle in which senior Keaton Cashin, along with juniors Justin Champlain and Nick Simonetti played solid defense. Then, with a little over 5 minutes left in the game, freshman Dylan Roy made a wonderful pass through the middle of the ice that was tipped by freshman Zingarelli and sent freshman Danny Crowther in on a breakaway with a terrific backhanded finish for the win! The JV boys have yet to be beaten this year.

12/29/08

The JV boys kept up their unbeaten streak with a 2-2 tie against their toughest opponent yet, Wilmington. The two squads have developed a rivalry over the years, always exhibiting strong battles between the two JV teams. Wilmington scored first, but Masco tied it at one off of a pretty tic-tac-toe passing play between freshmen Mitchell Maffeo, Vincent Zingarelli, and the goal scorer Danny Crowther. Wilmington re-took the lead, and the game looked like it may end with a Wilmington victory. That was until sophomore Brooks Pellerin put home a rebound from sophomore Corey Tudor, and tied the game at two halfway through the third period. The JV defense and goaltenders still have not let up more than two goals in a game, and remain unbeaten on the season.

12/20/08

Every good team has their off days, and the Chieftains chose the wrong time to have theirs. They ran into a very fast and physical Newburyport team, that was able to put away 5 goals on senior goalie Warren Mccarthy, despite him making some key saves in the game. The bounces just didn't go the Chieftains way in the game, as senior Andy Roach hit the crossbar once, and the post three times. In fact, none of the Chieftains shots could find their way to the back of the net as they lost 5-0. Masco is still in second place in the league, and will look to redeem themselves against Beverly Tuesday night.

12/17/08

JV continued their good play with a defensive 1-0 win over a strong Central Catholic team. The only goal scored in the game was one by freshman Danny Crowther, but it was enough to seal the victory for the Chieftains. Senior goaltender Warren Mccarthy played solid between the pipes, notching his first shutout and win of the year. This cause was helped by strong defensive play by the defense including Senior Keaton Cashin, who also supplied two assists in the game. The Chieftains will look to continue this early success against Wilmington next Wednesday.

12/13/08
