All great
things must come to an end, and that's what happened to Masco's
season on Tuesday, losing their first tournament game by a score of
3-2. Senior Tom Brazil scored fast, off of assists from senior Andy
Roach and junior Ryan Dooley. But then Lynnfield came storming back,
taking the lead 3-1 into the third period. Brazil made a beautiful
pass to Dooley, who tipped it in to bring the game within one with
three minutes to go. Masco fought for that tying goal, but fate was
not on their side. Senior captain Keaton Cashin, who played an
outstanding game, made an almost heroic end-to-end rush, that
finished with a shot that sailed just wide. Senior Warren Mccarthy
played a solid game against some great opportunities by Lynnfield,
and kept the Chieftains in the game. However, these efforts were not
enough as the season came to an end at the end of the game. While the
season ended on a sour note, the Chieftains had a great season this
year, earning their title as Co-CAL champs. Congratulations to all
the players and coaches, for a great season. Also, congratulations to
all of the Seniors, on great careers with Masco hockey, and god luck
with facing whatever may lay ahead.
2/18/09
Masco came out
on top in the rivalry against North Andover, winning a close game, 6-3.
2/16/09
The Chieftains
won their sixth game in a row on Monday, defeating Everett 2-0.
Sophomore Pat Crosby scored a goal, which was assisted by senior Andy
Roach. Junior Ryan Dooley was also able to light the lamp, on an
unassisted effort. Senior goalie Warren Mccarthy played outstanding,
earning his third shutout in a row! The boys are prepared to face off
against heated rival North Andover on Wednesday, for the final game
of the regular season.
2/15/09
The Masco
Chieftains defeated the Newburyport Clippers 4-0 on Sunday, in one of
the most exciting games of the season. Senior Warren Mccarthy stood
on his head in net, shutting out one of the most powerful offenses in
the league. Senior Tom Brazil lit the lamp twice, along with goals
from seniors Anthony Dibendetto and Andrew Panella. Dibendetto also
added an assist to the scoresheet. Senior Andy Roach attributed
another three assists in the game, showing why he is the leading
point scorer on the Chieftains. Only two games remain in the regular
season, including a final game showdown with rival North Andover.
2/11/09
The Chieftains
kept their hot streak rolling, as they defeated out of league
opponent Everett 7-0. Senior Tom Brazil scored a hat trick, to go
along with three assists each from fellow senior captains Keaton
Cashin and Andy Roach. Roach also added a goal for himself to the
scoresheet. Senior Andrew Panella scored a goal and an assist as
well. unior Justin Champlain showed off his hands, attributing two
assists as well. Senior goalie Warren Mccarthy played a solid period,
along from impressive goaltending periods by sophomores Casey Tudor
and Jake Warren. The team will try to ride this momentum against
Newburyport on Sunday, which could prove to be one of the toughest
games of the season.
2/9/09
The Masco boys
added another victory to the list, this time defeating Triton 5-2.
Senior captains Keaton Cashin and Tom Brazil each scored two goals
and an assist in the game. Senior captain Andy Roach also attributed
to the scoresheet four times with four assists. The team is now
continuing a three game winning streak, and is preparing to battle
against Everett on Wednesday.
2/7/09
Masco clinched
their spot in the playoffs against Pentucket, winning the game 6-1.
Senior Andy Roach lit the lamp three times, to go along with three
assists from fellow senior, linemate, and assistant captain Tom
Brazil. Seniors Anthony Dibendetto and Andrew Panella scored a goal
and an assist, and two goals respectively. Senior Captain Keaton
Cashin also added to the scoresheet with two assists of his own. The
team will look to keep up its momentum against Triton on Monday.
2/3/09
Masco had to
come back after a rough loss to North Reading, and they did on
Wednesday against Triton by winning 8-5. A young line of sophomore
Sean Haines, and recently called up freshmen Vincent Zingarelli and
Danny Crowther stole the show on Wednesday. Haines scored two goals,
Crowther added an assist in his first Varsity game. Zingarelli had a
great first night as well, adding 4 assists to the scoresheet. Junior
Ryan Dooley scored 2 goals and an assist. Seniors Keaton Cashin and
Andy Roach combined for 5 points as well. The team played well, and
rebounded well.
2/3/09
The JV boys
won an impressive game against Andover 5-4 on Sunday. Masco dominated
4-0 after the first two periods, then let Andover back in the game
with three unanswered goals in the third period to give the
Chieftains a scare. In the end, the Chieftains pulled off a very
satisfying win over an extremely strong Andover team. DiPietro
exploded for two impressive goals, Whiffen banged home a Woods shot,
Eidle finished a rebound and Braden Strainge got his first goal of
the season to set the tone for a great game!
2/1/09
There are some
games when teams just dominate play. The JV boys had one of those
against Nrth Reading, winning the game 8-0. Two goal and one assist
nights for freshman Vincent Zingarelli and junior Jake Dahlgren
helped the cause, along with another two goals scored by sophomore
Corey Tudor. Goals were also score by sophomore Phil Russo and
freshman Danny Crowther. Crowther also added an assist to the
scoresheet, along with 2 assists by freshmen Mitchell Maffeo and
Michael Divito. Sophomore David Eidle and freshman Bryan Shea. The
team defense, along with outstanding goaltending stopped the North
Reading offense.
1/31/09
Masco's
varsity squad could not pull out a win Saturday night against North
Reading, losing the game 6-2. The Chieftains did not run short on
chances, not capitalizing on countless powerplay opportunities and
the absence of a coach for North Reading, who was kicked out of the
game in the first period. The two goals were powerplay goals scored
by senior Tom Brazil, who was helped out by two assists from fellow
senior Andy Roach. The Chieftains will look to rebound from this
defeat against last place Triton on Tuesday.
1/31/09
Masco JV
couldn't overcome a powerful Tewksbury team on Saturday, losing to
them 5-0. The boys had a rare off game, and could not put one past a
hot Tewksbury goaltender and their stout defense. The always talented
JV boys will look to come back from their second loss in as many
games against North Reading on Sunday.
1/27/09
The JV boys
beat two of the Central Catholic JV teams earlier in the year.
However, the Central Catholic JV A team proved to be too much for the
Chieftains, defeating them 4-1. The only goal scored for Masco was
scored by sophomore Scott Woods, on an unassisted effort. The JV boys
play a tough opponent in Tewksbury on Saturday, and look to rebound
from this loss.
1/25/09
Once again the
JV boys showed their strength as they defeated North Andover on
Sunday 5-0. Goals came from freshmen Michael Divito, Danny Crowther,
sophomores Corey Tudor and Matt Whiffen, along with junior Jake
Dahlgren. Whiffen also posted an assist on the game, along with
freshmen Vincent Zingarelli, David Rockwood, and sophomore Brooks
Pellerin. The team offense dominated the game, shooting over 30 shots
on net and moving the puck well in the offensive zone. The defense
played strong as well, keeping up their consistent play, and were
backed up by solid goaltending.
1/24/09
Masco
dominated the Peabody Tanners JV team on Saturday by a score of 5-1.
The game was dominated by great offensive play from freshmen Vincent
Zingarelli, who scored 2 goals and an assist, and Mike Divito, who
scored a goal and an assist. Freshman Mitchell Maffeo made a
beautiful assist on Zingarelli's first goal. Sophomore Corey Tudor
and freshman Danny Crowther also added to their goal totals on the
year, as well as another assist for Crowther. Other assists came from
junior Jake Dahlgren, sophomores Braden Strainge and Phil Russo, and
freshman Bryan Shea. Shea and junior Nate Adams-Cook played
outstanding games on defense. The boys play North Andover tomorrow
for what should be a great game.
1/24/09
Varsity beat
the top team in the Cape Ann League, Wilmington, earlier in the year.
However the Chieftains could not pull off a victory again in a tight
2-1 loss on Saturday. Senior goalie Warren McCarthy played solid in
net, making some key saves against the potent Wilmington offense. The
only goal for Masco was scored by senior Andy Roach, on a nice pass
from senior Andrew Panella. The Chieftains look to redeem themselves
on Wednesday against another top team, Newburyport.
1/19/09
After a tie
earlier in the year against Lynnfield, Masco knew that their battle
was going to be an even match. However, this time the Chieftains came
out on top in a 7-5 victory. Junior Charlie Gendron exploded today
with his first varsity points, including a goal and three assists.
Senior Anthony DiBendetto scored two goals and also attributed an
assist. Seniors Keaton Cashin, Stefan Surette, Tom Brazil, and Andy
Roach each had two points. Senior Andrew Panella and junior Justin
Champlain also scored goals in the game. Juniors Nick Dipietro and
Ryan Dooley made assists as well. The game was a key victory, and the
team has scored 16 goals in the last two games. The offense is
heating up at the right time, as they will face first place
Wilmington next week.
1/17/09
There are a
few games every year when everything clicks for a team. One of them
came today for Masco, who defeated Amesbury 9-0 in a game that
involved great offense and great defense. Senior Warren Mccarthy
stopped the few shots that came his way in the first two periods, and
then handed it off to sophomore Casey Tudor who did the same. Junior
Stephen Kracunas started the scoring early on in the first period,
with his first varsity goal, and it didn't stop from there. Sophomore
Pat Crosby scored two goals in the game, including one on a pretty
breakaway move to beat the goaltender. Fellow sophomore Sean Haines
made a nice assist on the goal scored by junior Nick Simonetti.
Junior Justin Champlain was the playmaker out there for the
Chieftains, as he piled up three assists. Seniors Keaton Cashin,
Stefan Surette, Andy Roach, Andrew Panella, P.J. Brooks and Tom
Brazil amounted for a combined eleven points in the game. Masco looks
to continue this success into the next game against Lynnfield.
1/14/09
The rivalry
between North Andover and Masco has been growing over the last few
years. Both teams have been very well-matched, as they were Wednesday
night at Merrimack College, where the teams tied 1-1. Senior Tom
Brazil got the scoring started for Masco early, off of a nice off
angle shot that was set up by fellow senior Andy Roach. With that
goal the Chieftains went into the locker room ahead 1-0. However,
when the second period began, North Andover fought back, tying the
game at one. From there on the game was back and forth, with chance
after chance for both teams. Senior goalie Warren Mccarthy came up
big for the Chieftains, making plenty two breakaway saves in the
third period, including one against high scoring North Andover senior
Ryan Sifferlen. The Chieftains will take this tie, and move on in the
season with a game against Amesbury on Saturday.
1/13/09
Wilmington was
the JV boys' toughest team to play earlier in the season, and the
only thing that has changed is the outcome. The baby Chieftains lost
a game for the first time this year against Wilmington, 4-1. The team
lost the first periods, but then fought back in the third period.
Freshman Vincent Zingarelli scored the lone goal for Masco with an
assist from junior Jake Dahlgren. Masco got plenty of shots, but ran
into a hot Wilmington goalie. The boys will look to put this behind
them and face Marblehead on Saturday, to start a new winning streak.
1/12/09
Tewksbury has
proven to Masco that it is a tough opponent to beat. After knocking
Masco out of the playoffs last year, they returned with the same
intensity, defeating Masco 6-2. Casey Tudor played solid in net, but
wasn't able to weather each storm that the fast paced offense of
Tewksbury brought. Seniors Andy Roach and Anthony DiBendetto scored
goals for Masco. Senior Tom Brazil posted two assists, along with
another from each Senior Stefan Surette and Roach. Masco needs to
recover quickly, and get ready for a tough rivalry game against North
Andover at hostile Merrimack College on Wednesday.
1/10/09
The varsity
chieftains tied with a tough Lynnfield squad 2-2 on Saturday. This
was a defensive battle in which senior Keaton Cashin, along with
juniors Justin Champlain and Nick Simonetti played solid defense. No
goals were scored until the second period when Lynnfield scored on a
long shot from the blue line. It stayed that way until senior P.J.
Brooks was able to score his third goal in two games to tie it at
one. Senior Tom Brazil was able to put one top shelf a few minutes
later to bring the Chieftains ahead 2-1. The lead could not last
though, as Lynnfield was able to score in a scrum in front of the
net. The score remained tied for the rest of the game, despite
chances for each team. Senior Warren McCarthy played a solid game in
net making some key stops for Masco.
1/9/09
Another
awesome game by the other half of the JV squad against a very tough
Andover team. Sophomore Sean Haines started the scoring with a wrist
shot goal glove side. Sophomore Corey Tudor pumped in the next two
goals from sophomores David Eidle and Scott Woods to seal the
victory. Sophomore Peter Villani played the entire game and played
his best game since becoming a Chieftain. He made some terrific saves
and truly was the backbone of this winning effort.
1/9/09
The JV boys
had an action-packed game that found the Chieftains down 1-0 in the
first period. Freshman Brian Hellrigel scored on a loose puck in
offensive and slapped home the tying goal. Then, with a little over 5
minutes left in the game, freshman Dylan Roy made a wonderful pass
through the middle of the ice that was tipped by freshman Zingarelli
and sent freshman Danny Crowther in on a breakaway with a terrific
backhanded finish for the win! Awesome team defense and a great game
by sophomore Jake Warren in net. With only had two lines of forwards
and defense this was a great win for the baby Chieftains!
1/6/09
The JV boys
were able to bring their unbeaten streak to 9 on Tuesday with a 5-1
victory over Lynnfield. Sophomore Corey Tudor exploded, scoring a hat
trick along with an assist of his own. Sophomore Brooks Pellerin and
freshman Danny Crowther scored as well, to keep the powerful offense
going. To score 5 goals in a game, there has to be playmakers. One of
the playmakers for this game was sophomore David Eidle, who was
attributed to a 3 assists. The team defense once again helped keep
the score down along with outstanding goaltending play. Masco plays
Andover next, which should prove to be one of the toughest games of
the year.
1/3/09
The JV boys
defeated a much improved Triton team from the first game of the
season on Saturday, by a slim margin of 3-2. The boys had plenty of
chances, but the puck did not bounce their way for most of the game.
However, sophomores Brooks Pellerin and Matt Whiffen were able to
light the lamp for the boys. Junior Jake Dahlgren posted two assists
on the game, along with assists by sophomore Corey Tudor and freshman
Danny Crowther. The game was tied until freshman Vincent Zingarelli
was able to put one home and win the game for the Chieftains. The
boys play Lynnfield on Tuesday, for what hopes to be a tough battle.
1/3/09
The Varsity
Chieftains started out the new year with a beatdown, defeating
Pentucket 6-0. The game was controlled by a strong overall play by
both offense and defense, along with a fourteen save shutout by
senior Warren Mccarthy. The first goal of the game was scored in the
first period, by sophomore Sean Haines, who took passes from senior
Anthony DiBendetto and junior Brendan Dahlgren. The boys never looked
back from there, as they scored another goal in the second period,
and four more in the third. Senior Andrew Panella had a solid
performance, scoring a goal and and an assist in the game. Junior
Ryan Dooley was able to add two goals to the scoresheet as well. The
fourth line of seniors P.J. Brooks and Cam Nekoroski, along with
junior Stephen Kracunas had a great game. Brooks scored 2 goals,
which were both assisted by Nekoroski and Kracunas. The team will
face off against a strong Lynnfield team on Saturday.
12/30/08
In a tough
battle against Tewksbury, the JV boys came out on top again, winning
a short game 2-1. The game had two 17 minute periods, the Chieftains
played to their ability and held off a very good Tewksbury team with
superb team defense. Junior Eric Ciocca made a beautiful feed to
standout freshman Vincent Zingarelli who put away the game's first
goal. Tewksbury battled back tying the game up at one apiece. Junior
Jake Dahlgren broke the tie with a hard shot that deflected off a
Tewksbury defender and into the net. That put Masco up 2-1 which was
the way it stayed. The JV boys have yet to be beaten this year.
12/29/08
The JV boys
kept up their unbeaten streak with a 2-2 tie against their toughest
opponent yet, Wilmington. The two squads have developed a rivalry
over the years, always exhibiting strong battles between the two JV
teams. Wilmington scored first, but Masco tied it at one off of a
pretty tic-tac-toe passing play between freshmen Mitchell Maffeo,
Vincent Zingarelli, and the goal scorer Danny Crowther. Wilmington
re-took the lead, and the game looked like it may end with a
Wilmington victory. That was until sophomore Brooks Pellerin put home
a rebound from sophomore Corey Tudor, and tied the game at two
halfway through the third period. The JV defense and goaltenders
still have not let up more than two goals in a game, and remain
unbeaten on the season.
12/27/08
Varsity
defeated North Reading today in a tough battle against North Reading
2-1. The Chieftains started strong with their offensive attack,
against a very defensive North Reading team. The first goal was put
away by senior captain Keaton Cashin, with a beautiful end-to-end
rush, in which he sent home his own rebound. North Reading fought
back in the second period, tying the game up at one apiece. The
deadlock was broken when senior Anthony DiBendetto roofed a shot off
of beautiful passes by sophomore Sean Haines and junior Ryan Dooley,
putting Masco up 2-1. The game ended that way after some solid
goaltending by senior Warren Mccarthy. The Chieftain's record now
stands at 4-1 overall.
12/23/08
Masco has a
bright future, as the JV team won again today against North Andover
4-2. The boys had a great game, shooting over 40 shots, but ran into
a hot goaltender who only let in 4. Freshman Vincent Zingarelli
scored 2 more goals, to increase his lead as the team's leading point
scorer. Sophomore Brooks Pellerin and freshman Michael Divito were
also able to find the back of the net, to round off the team's
scoring. Sophomores Matt Whiffen and Corey Tudor posted assists in
the game, along with freshmen Mitchell Maffeo, David Rockwood, and
Danny Crowther who got 2. Sophomores Jake Warren and Peter Villani
played solid games in between the pipes. The team's next game is on
12/29 against Wilmington, where they will look to continue winning.
12/21/08
JV game vs.
Amesbury postponed. No due date has been set.
12/20/08
Every good
team has their off days, and the Chieftains chose the wrong time to
have theirs. They ran into a very fast and physical Newburyport team,
that was able to put away 5 goals on senior goalie Warren Mccarthy,
despite him making some key saves in the game. The bounces just
didn't go the Chieftains way in the game, as senior Andy Roach hit
the crossbar once, and the post three times. In fact, none of the
Chieftains shots could find their way to the back of the net as they
lost 5-0. Masco is still in second place in the league, and will look
to redeem themselves against Beverly Tuesday night.
12/17/08
JV continued
their good play with a defensive 1-0 win over a strong Central
Catholic team. The only goal scored in the game was one by freshman
Danny Crowther, but it was enough to seal the victory for the
Chieftains. Masco played a very good defensive game, and kept up with
the fast pace that was produced by Central Catholic. The next game
will be played against Amesbury on 12/21/08.
12/17/08
Varsity won
again Wednesday over a tough Wilmington team 4-2. This was their
second win in as many games, and they have taken first place in the
Cape Ann League. The first line produced well, as seniors Stefan
Surette and Andy Roach both scored a goal and 2 assists, along with a
3 assist performance by Tom Brazil. Senior captain Keaton Cashin
scored a goal himself, along with an outstanding game on defense,
including a monstrous hit at the end of the second period. Senior
goalie Warren Mccarthy played solid in net, making some key saves at
important times. The boys play again on Saturday against a very good
Newburyport team.
12/16/08
JV won again
on Tuesday, defeating a solid Newburyport team 4-3. Goals were scored
by freshmen David Rockwood and Mitchell Maffeo, along with junior
Jake Dahlgren. Rising freshman phenom Vincent Zingarelli added two
more assists to his total, bringing him to 7 points in three games
this year. Sophomore Brooks Pellerin, along with freshmen Bryan Shea
and Danny Crowther made assists as well. JV plays Central Catholic's
Freshman only team next Wednesday December 17th.
12/13/08
Varsity began
their season with a solid victory over Amesbury 3-0. The boys
dominated the game offensively, but ran into a goalie on a mission,
who stopped 57 out of Masco's 60 shots. But he couldn't stop goals
from seniors Stefan Surette, and Andy Roach, along with a pretty rush
by Junior Ryan Dooley, who also put one home. Senior goaltender
Warren Mccarthy played solid between the pipes, notching his first
shutout and win of the year. This cause was helped by strong
defensive play by the defense including Senior Keaton Cashin, who
also supplied two assists in the game. The Chieftains will look to
continue this early success against Wilmington next Wednesday.
12/13/08
Success
continued for the JV team as they skated to victory again over
Lynnfield 4-3. The offense was fueled by a hat trick by sophmore Sean
Haines, along with a goal from Freshman David Rockwood. A solid
defensive effort also helped preserve the victory for the boys. The
team will face off against Newburyport on Tuesday.
12/9/08
JV began their
season today with flying colors, defeating Triton 5-1. The offense
came out flying, with goals from sophomores Brooks Pellerin and Corey
Tudor. Also adding to the score were freshmen Vincent Zingarelli,
Dylan Roy, and Danny Crowther. The team looks to improve on their
good start Saturday against Lynnfield.
